Reconstruction of Typical Radial Settling Tanks with the Use of a Scraper System Finnchain

Summary

Difficulties of the operation of radial primary and secondary settling tanks with typical equipment for sludge removal (sludge disposal trucks IBR and sludge scrapers IPR) are stated. The scraper system Finnchain (Finland) devoids these shortcomings. A principle of operation of this equipment is described; basic operation data and its distinctions from analogues are presented.

Research in Operation of Nitri-Denitrification Aerotanks with Heightened Doses of Activated Sludge

Summary

Specialists of the MSUE Mosvodokanal have developed the technological method making it possible to develop purposefully activated sludge having a sludge index reduced stably for technology of biogenic elements removal and heightened speed of sedimentation. It makes it possible to increase the oxidation capacity of aerotanks as regard the chemical oxygen consumption and ammonium nitrogen. In the issue of pilot studies carried out the rise of oxidation capacity by 1,6–1,7 times owing to the change of technological conditions of the unit operation has been achieved. The method developed makes it possible to reconstruct aerotanks for biological treatment of wastewater for nitrogen and phosphorus without reduction of hydraulic loading.

The experience of retechnologizing the existing wastewater biological treatment facilities

Summary

Retechnologization is an efficient advanced method of upgrading wastewater treatment facilities that has been successfully used by Ecopolymer Group for 10 years. Upon the completion of retechnologization of a number of wastewater treatment facilities with nutrient removal good quality of effluent at minimum construction works was achieved. The most perspective technology of removing nutrients from wastewater is multistage nitri-denitrification with the use of А/О- and А2/О-process flow schemes. Any type of aeration tank: two-, three- and four line facilities, complete-mix activated sludge systems, plug flow systems can be subject to retechnologization. Specific reconstruction design is determined with the help of mathematic modeling. Retechnologization of the wastewater treatment facilities has been carried out in more than twenty water and wastewater companies (Vodokanals).

Treatment of Digested Sludge in Aerated Bioreactors

Summary

Processes of the treatment of digested sludge of the Moscow treatment facilities in aerated bioreactors have been studied under the laboratory conditions. It is established that in the course of stabilization of dry substance of sludge the processes of simultaneous nitri-denitrification and dephosphation take place actively. Efficiency of biogenic elements removal depends on the age of activated sludge in a bioreactor, oxygen and temperature conditions and quality of initial sludge. The flow chart of biological, aerobic treatment of digested sludge making it possible to improve water returning properties of sludge, remove the bad smelling substances, reduce the content of nitrogen and phosphorus in supernatant water has been developed.

Simulation of Biochemical Processes of Wastewater Treatment as a Basis of WWTFs Retechnologization

Summary

In accordance with the requirements of environmental legislation it is necessary to introduce the best available technologies at biological WWTFs. In the course of development of plans of reconstruction and capital repair of sewerage treatment facilities it is necessary to carry out the variant examination of flow charts of treatment on the basis of imitation simulation. A detailed analysis and comparison of different models of processes with activated sludge have been conducted. Treatment processes at large number of facilities have been simulated with the help of the Ecosim 3P program developed by the Ecopolymer Company. It is shown that the imitation simulation makes it possible to ensure a high accuracy of treatment results prediction. An approach to the retechnologization of treatment facilities based on mathematical models of biochemical processes with activated sludge has been developed. This approach tested experimentally at a whole number of biological treatment stations has made it possible to carry out their retechnologization resulted in considerable reduction of biogenic elements in treated water.
