Long-term protection and waterproofing of precast concrete drinking water tanks

Summary

For the construction of drinking water tanks reinforced concrete is most often used that has significant advantages compared to other materials, e.g. environmental friendliness (monolithic and precast concrete does not release toxic substances into water); durability (with proper operation, tanks made of reinforced concrete reliably serve at least 100 years while maintaining operational properties); the possibility of building tanks of different capacity and shape; affordable cost. The option of repair and waterproofing of prefabricated reinforced concrete water tanks in a drinking water supply system in the presence of defective areas is given. Such defects include: destruction of the protective layer of concrete with reinforcement baring, damage of the waterproofing of the wall panels adjoining the foundation, static joints between wall panels, wall panels adjoining ribbed floor slabs. Repair and waterproofing are carried out using Penetron and Skrepa materials that have the required permissions for being used in drinking water supply systems.

Deep-well pumping units at the Velizhany water treatment facilities of Tumen

Summary

Centrifugal submersible pumps are designed for installation in deep wells, open pits and different reservoirs. The pumps ensure high pressure of the pumped clean water with a small sand concentration. Deep-well pumps are widely used both for domestic and industrial purposes (e. g. for automatic water supply, garden irrigation, in firefighting systems etc.). Deep-well pumping units have been used at the Tumen Vodokanal facilities from the beginning of 1980-ies in response to the need of deep underground water abstraction. The story of establishing the production of APVM and ETSV deep-well pumping units at the premises of the mechanical repair department of «Tumen Vodokanal» LLC is described. The problems related to their production and operation are designated. The succeeding introduction of advanced energy efficient equipment manufactured by Wilo German company and SAER Italian company is considered, the results of their operation are presented. Replacing ETSV pumping units with Wilo and SAER energy efficient pumps provided for reducing the energy intensity at the water intake facilities of the Velizhany water treatment plant by 23.8%. The results of pilot operation of Ciris CRS10-65/3 deep-well pumping unit manufactured by Livnynasos OJSC at one of the Tumen water intakes are summarized. The operation of deep-well pumping units made of high quality anticorrosive materials allowed three-fold reduction of repairs and hence significantly decrease of the operation and maintenance expenditures at the intake pum­ping station of the Velizhany water treatment facilities.

A modern laboratory – the most accurate facility  of water quality management

Summary

The accredited Central laboratory of Ekaterinburg «Vodokanal» MUE is carrying out industrial laboratory control of the water qua­lity in the public water supply and wastewater disposal systems in accordance with the requirements of the regulatory documents. The main tasks of the laboratory control at the water and wastewater treatment facilities are as follows – analyses of the raw and treated water quality, quality control of the supplied chemicals, evaluation of the treatment facilities operation at different stages, optimization of the process flows and selection of high efficient chemicals. The objects of the control are drinking water, wastewater, water from the underground and surface water sources, chemicals, wastewater sludge, sludge from the treatment facilities. The objects of the control are analyzed for microbiological, parasitological, virological, general chemical, inorganic, organic, hydrobiological and radiological parameters. The upgrade of the instrumentation stock is described; the information on the advanced analytical instruments used in the Central laboratory is presented.

Targeted energy audit of the industrial water mains and distribution networks

Summary

In 2016 «Ostec-SMT» Company carried out a targeted energy audit of the drinking water supply networks at a wood processing plant in Siberia. The audit covered the water mains and distribution pipelines supplying water to the plant. The heart of the problem is the excess water losses (35% of the total water amount supplied by the public water supply system). The annual difference between the water amount purchased from the water services company and that supplied to the customers is 400 thousand m3. In order to locate the leaks it was decided to carry out consecutive measurements of drinking water flow from the interface of inventory responsibility, at the nodal points and at the service connections. The discovered water imbalance between the adjacent points, and leaks were determined with the use of a correlation leak detector. After the work completion the balance of the drinking water supply of the plant was compiled, the sections with losses were pointed out, and their quantitative estimate was given. The integrated study carried out by the experts of «Ostec-SMT» LLC provided for the exhaustive information on the state of the entire water supply system of the plant. The plant where the targeted energy audit of the water mains and distribution networks was carried out had implemented over the last years a number of large-scale investment projects, commissioned new and upgraded operating capacities.
