Automated System of Control over Technological Process of Filtration

Summary

It is told about the stage-by-stage realization of the project of automation of the filtration process at the pumping-filtering station of the city of Novosibirsk. In the first place equipment of automated monitoring of parameters of the filtration process and equipment were introduced. The stage-by-stage introduction of the automation system on the basis of monitoring results makes it possible to optimize the process of filters washing. Owing to the correct adjustment of fittings and control elements it is possible to reduce the quantity of wash water by 18%. The second component of reducing wash water consumption is the optimization of a period of filters washing. By the parameters controlled (head loss, turbidity, capacity, position of valves during the washing) it is possible to increase the time of a filtering cycle by about 2 times which reduces water consumption for filters washing. The developed solutions of the stage-by-stage introduction of automation of control over the technological process make it possible to use them at analogous filtering facilities.

The concept of enterprise consolidated information area
and its approbation in «Vodokanal» MUE of Irkutsk

Summary

A brief description of approaches to IT development of the operators of public utilities pipelines is presented. The main task of developing intelligent pipeline systems is the harmonization of the requirements and capabilities of all the parties to the processes of receiving and conveying the operating medium, delivering and using the services. Herewith a consumer is assigned the part of an active full-fledged stakeholder who can influence the scope of services, their quality and price. The key objective of improving the degree of intellectuality of pipeline systems is ensuring the high level of their technologic controllability. The necessary condition of achieving the set goal is the availability of the consolidated information area as a cornerstone factor. The basic provisions of the concept of the enterprise consolidated information area are presented and the experience of its approbation in «Vodokanal» MUE of Irkutsk is described. Compared to the typical approach to the development of the management information system («top-down») that assumes data centralization within the frames of the unified information system, a flexible approach is proposed that is based on the data resource integration («bottom-up»). Herewith the information support of the decision-making processes related to the operation control is put a premium on. The acceptance of this concept by water and wastewater providers will lay the groundwork for establishing the intersystem and intraurban co-operation, integration with external structures and services (municipal administration, supervisory authorities, online resources for customer relations etc.), provide for improving the general level of controllability and concurrence of the decisions made which will result in the improvement of the efficiency and service quality.

Specific features of collection and treatment of industrial stormwater runoff from motor transport enterprises

Summary

The urgency of the problem of industrial stormwater runoff collection and treatment has been caused by the continuous car density growth that is a high-toxic pollution source. The task of the studies was investigation and assessment of the motor transport enterprise impact on the municipal watershed health under current conditions. The results of inspecting water utilization schemes at motor transport enterprises, bus, trolley-bus and taxi depots, truck depots, motor pools of construction equipment, road machinery and specialty vehicles are presented. Core process flows: engine, radiator and machine battery part washing, fuel tank testing, parts and assemblies washing, outside washing and painting of motor vehicles were investigated. Full-scale inspection of local intrashop wastewater treatment facilities and intrasite surface runoff facilities was carried out; laboratory analyses of raw wastewater and effluent quantitative and qualitative parameters including oil products, suspended solids, salt content, synthetic surfactants, heavy metals etc. were made. Rational technical solutions for improving the operation of industrial stormwater runoff treatment facilities with the use of mechanical, physical and chemical treatment technologies including horizontal grit chambers, settlers-oil separators, pressure filter cascade with mineral granular media and high efficient sorption materials were suggested. At that, the efficiency of treatment meets the effluent requirements for being reused as process water or discharged into the municipal storm collector and water bodies.

Control valves in controlled pneumatic aeration processes

Summary

Through the 2013–2019 program of the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities of the Samara Area «Samarskie Kommunal’nye Sistemy» Company has developed and has been successfully implementing the project of upgrading the municipal wastewater treatment facilities. In order to improve the energy efficiency retrofitting the systems of aeration and air distribution, equipping with compressors with controlled air supply to the aeration tanks within 45–100% range is envisaged. The general concept of control has been substantiated that includes complex level of process control and a two-loop automation scheme «aeration tank gate valve control – air blower group». The method of selecting control valves for the air supply control system for pneumatic wastewater aeration has been developed and substantiated. The method is based on the dependence of compressed media flow through the control valve stated in IEC 60534-2-1 International Standard. Under full-scale conditions with the use of precision equipment the flow characteristics of IRIS (DN300) control valve manufactured by Egger were studied. The average percentage error of the method was 6.79%. The method error does not matter much for the automated control since PID-control provides for supplying the required air amount according to the condition of compliance to О2, NH4 set values and current measurements of the supplied air amount. The classification of control valves is presented based on the type of the dependence of Kv/Kvs valve capacity coefficients from the rate of valve opening. Technological modes were identified: comparison of the theoretical and experimental flow characteristics of the control valve, pressure difference at the control valve, pressure difference in the «control valve – aerators» system, aerial environment temperature before the valve. The suggested method of the control valve calculation is a part of the «Energy efficiency of the controlled air supply to the aeration tanks» comprehensive mathematical model.

Current trends in water supply optimization
(review)

Summary

The main aspects of introducing SCADA-systems for automated control of water supply and wastewater disposal processes: synchronization of software with the installed control systems; erection of a programmable logic controller, introduction of algorithms of systemic optimization, synchronization of the telemetry system and control system at the facilities are considered. The basic technical factors (e. g. when a programmable logic controller and RTU blocks have been already connected to the centralized control system; the availability of separate algorithms at RTU-block level) that shall be taken into account when making a decision on the introduction and in the process of designing automated control systems as well as the principles of SCADA system operation by a special operating department are described. By the example of the companies that have introduced SCADA-systems for water and wastewater industry an analysis of the results in terms of absolute and relative indices is given. The capacity of some pumping stations operated by EBMUD Company was improved by more than 27%. During the first week of the system operation WSSC Company registered about 400 dollars per day cost cutting just at one of the pumping stations. For the second week this amount increased to 570 dollars per day and for the third week exceeded 1000 dollars per day. Similar effect was noted at other 17 pumping stations. Thus, SCADA-systems contribute to financial advantages by optimized and improved efficient control of water supply and wastewater disposal processes. The use of the relative international experience for the project implementation in Russia has been an effective solution.
