The use of ozonation equipment for natural water treatment at the Far North

Summary

The results of many years developing, commissioning and maintaining water treatment plants with ozonation used for ferrous iron and manganese oxidation, elimination of both natural organics and organics of anthropogenic origin, showed the reliability and efficiency of Ozonia OZAT® ozone generators. Beginning from 2007 a number of plants with the use of ozonation equipment for northern surface (lake) water treatment have been commissioned. When designing and commissioning the plants the results of technological studies carried out were taken into consideration. It was found that the two-stage treatment technology with preliminary chemical clarification of water with the use of ozonation as a stage that ensured high quality of water was the most efficient.

The specific features of using organic cationic flocculants in surface water treatment

Summary

The specific features of using high-molecular cationic flocculants for the treatment of water from surface sources characterized by low color, medium turbidity and low organics are considered. On basis of theoretical provisions and experimental results the expediency of using these flocculants as basic chemicals and in combination with mineral flocculants are shown; the conditions of using them at the water treatment plants are determined.

Intensification of low-turbidity colored water treatment in a sludge blanket clarifier (part 1)

Summary

The specific features of high colored low turbidity water treatment in clarifiers with sludge blanket during representative time periods with low temperatures and water alkalinity are considered by the example of the Vologda water treatment facilities. The results of investigating chemical pretreatment of water from the Vologa River and Koubenskoye Lake during flood periods with the use of various oxychloride and aluminium sulfate trademarks as well as cationic and anionic flocculants are presented. The advanced methods of enforcing water treatment process in a sludge blanket are covered. The results of studying a «clarifier-filter with floating media» combined system are presented.

The efficiency of low turbidity colored water treatment in dissolved-air flotation units

Summary

In order to ensure high quality drinking water at the Syktyvkar water treatment plant for the entire lifecycle of the facilities a number of process lines were constructed with different combinations of the primary treatment facilities: horizontal settling tanks, contact primary filters, dissolved-air flotation units. The treatment line with dissolved-air flotation with a capacity of 65,000 m3/day was commissioned in 2006. The evaluation of the plant efficiency during the commissioning and follow-up operation periods is given. The advantages of using the dissolved-air flotation technology for low turbidity colored water treatment in comparison with the operation of other treatment lines are given. The efficiency of coagulated water flotation clarification is comparable with filtration.

Comparison of aluminium-containing coagulant efficiency in turbid river water purification

Summary

The results of comparing the efficiency of inorganic aluminium-containing coagulants with different chemical composition and basic substance concentration when used for turbid river water purification: aluminium sulphate, AQUA-AURAT™ aluminium polyoxychlorides as well as composite aluminium-based coagulants are presented. It was shown that composite coagulants and coagulating-flocculating compounds are most efficient for turbid water treatment.

Geochemical simulation of intraformational deironing and demanganation of ground water

Summary

A model of intraformational elimination of iron and manganese from ground water based on PhreeqC 2 software package was developed. The model takes into account the chemical parameters of the proceeding processes. The model application results show the high efficiency of intraformational deironing in the area of the Mostovoy water intake (Komsomolsk-on-Amur city). The effect of manganese concentration increase in pumped water during the initial operating period of the Tungus ground water intake is explained. The developed technique of hydrogeochemical simulation provides for designing a model of intraformational process of iron and manganese elimination while taking into account the analysis of the rock water-retaining capacity and intrastratal water.

Desiliconization of ground water at the deironing-demanganization facilities

Summary

The results of investigating the technology of desiliconization of ground water typical for the Tyumen North are presented. It was found that efficient elimination of siliceous, ferriferous and manganese compounds is ensured in the process of water treatment with potassium permanganate in alkalescent environment with subsequent coagulation with AQUA-AURAT™30 polyoxychloride. However, the dosage of coagulant required to provide for the permissible silicon concentration is relatively high. Therefore, additional clarification means (e.g. two-stage filtration) shall be retrofitted into the process flow scheme. Residual aluminium concentration in filtrate did not exceed Maximum Permissible Concentration (MPC).
